Simple and Delicious
Fishing and cooking both require a fair amount of waiting—so why not keep things simple?
This easy fish taco recipe is perfect for anglers who want a great meal without spending hours in the kitchen. Fresh fish, simple ingredients, and minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs whitefish
- 6 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 lemons
- 2 limes
- 4 tomatoes, diced
- 1 avocado, diced
- 1 cup cilantro, chopped
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- 4 cups cabbage, finely shredded
- Sour cream
- 10 small corn tortillas
- ½ tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Make the Slaw
In a large bowl, combine:
- Cabbage
- Tomatoes
- Cilantro
- Juice from 2 limes
Mix well and set aside.
Step 2: Marinate the Fish
In another bowl:
- Squeeze in the lemons
- Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Place the fish in the marinade and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Or, as the lazy angler would say—take a break.
Step 3: Cook the Fish
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Remove fish from marinade
- Cook for about 4–5 minutes per side
- Cook until the fish is no longer translucent
Handle gently—fish flakes easily once cooked.
Step 4: Warm the Tortillas
In a skillet:
- Toast tortillas for 30–60 seconds per side
This step is optional, but it adds texture and improves flavor.
Step 5: Assemble the Tacos
- Flake the cooked fish
- Add to tortillas
- Top with slaw, avocado, cheese, and sour cream
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper
- Serve with fresh lime wedges
