The Golf Grip
The golf grip is similar to the thumb grip, but with a slightly different hand position.
With this grip:
- Your thumb and index finger wrap around the handle
- Your hand holds the rod more like you would hold a golf club
- Your remaining fingers support the grip naturally
This creates a firm and secure hold on the rod.
When to Use It
The golf grip is useful when:
- Fishing in windy conditions
- Casting over longer distances
- Fishing in larger bodies of water
The added grip strength can help you maintain control when conditions are less stable.
Things to Keep in Mind
While this grip is comfortable and secure, it can put more strain on your wrist over time.
- Avoid gripping too tightly
- Take breaks if your wrist starts to feel tired
Like all grips, it should feel natural and controlled, not forced.
Keep It Simple
Each grip has its advantages, but there is no single “right” choice.
Try all three:
- Point grip
- Thumb grip
- Golf grip
Use the one that feels the most comfortable and gives you the best control.
