To fish in Arizona lakes and rivers, you will need an Arizona general fishing license from the Arizona Game and Fish Department. If you are blind or under 10 years of age, you do not need to have a license. However, individuals of 10 years and above are required to get the fishing license.

As the bass is a popular fish of Lake Havasu State Park, many people come here to catch bass. The largemouth bass produced here is average to large in size, and the peak time for fishing in this area is May and June. In the summer, the spawning activity starts, and the fish start to leave the lake in June. Most of the anglers choose bait that is made from rigged worms and soft plastic. Other bait that works effectively is: heavy jigs, deep-running crankbaits, and Carolina rigs. When the fishing season begins, the anglers move to productive fishing spots to catch a large number of fish. If you are interested in catching the bass around brush, use surface lures, spinners, and Carolina rigged worms. When the fish move offshore, the most effective baits are rigged worms, deep diving crankbaits, and surface baits. Remember that the best time for fishing bass is early morning when it moves away from the shore. Another factor that you should keep in mind is the fishing areas. Stumps, logs, boulders, channels, and rocks are the favorite spots for the fish to hide. 

Smallmouth bass is one of the popular fish species found in Lake Havasu. During the day time, smallmouth can be found under the shady areas in the water. During morning and evening time, they move to the shorelines. Hybrid striped bass also moves to the deep water around lake channels in the seasons of summer and spring.

For catfish, anglers can try their luck in the areas of rip-rap and rocky shores during late spring and early summer. With large suckers, shrimp, nightcrawlers, and chicken liver, the anglers catch fairly a large number of catfish from July to September. At this time, the effective bait will be: large minnows, cut bait, shad gizzards, blood bait, sunfish, and shrimp. When the fish migrate in the main pool area and downstream in spring, live gizzard shad should be used. 

Sunfish constructs their nests in deep water. The fish are found all year round, but the most productive time is winter. During late May or early June, when the water temperature reaches 75 degrees, the fish spawn. Underwater ledges, holes under the mud banks, underwater ledges and other places are the best for sunfish.

Lake Havasu fishing can be done by using fishing reels, fishing rods, hooks, and different sorts of bait. The type of bait you pick depends on the species you are intending to catch. The rocks, bushy area, and driftwood make the perfect habitats for most of the fishes here. That is why in this lake you must consider the specific area of the lake, the season, the type of bait used, and the best times for fishing.
