Lazy Anglers Fish Tacos

Simple and Delicious

Fishing and cooking both require a fair amount of waiting—so why not keep things simple?

This easy fish taco recipe is perfect for anglers who want a great meal without spending hours in the kitchen. Fresh fish, simple ingredients, and minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs whitefish
  • 6 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 limes
  • 4 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 4 cups cabbage, finely shredded
  • Sour cream
  • 10 small corn tortillas
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Make the Slaw

In a large bowl, combine:

  • Cabbage
  • Tomatoes
  • Cilantro
  • Juice from 2 limes

Mix well and set aside.

Step 2: Marinate the Fish

In another bowl:

  • Squeeze in the lemons
  • Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil

Place the fish in the marinade and let it sit for about 15 minutes.

Or, as the lazy angler would say—take a break.

Step 3: Cook the Fish

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.

  • Remove fish from marinade
  • Cook for about 4–5 minutes per side
  • Cook until the fish is no longer translucent

Handle gently—fish flakes easily once cooked.

Step 4: Warm the Tortillas

In a skillet:

  • Toast tortillas for 30–60 seconds per side

This step is optional, but it adds texture and improves flavor.

Step 5: Assemble the Tacos

  • Flake the cooked fish
  • Add to tortillas
  • Top with slaw, avocado, cheese, and sour cream
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper
  • Serve with fresh lime wedges

Final Thoughts

This is a quick, simple recipe that lets the flavor of fresh fish stand out. Perfect after a long day on the water when you want something easy but still satisfying.
