Myrtle Beach

It’s one of the most popular fishing spots due to its touristy vibe, which makes it every angler’s dream beach destination. Get ready to indulge in fun-filled water activities like surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, which can all be done along with amazing fishing experiences. Summers are a peak fishing season, and you can find a wide variety of fish species. Offshore fish include: Flounder, Bull Redfish, Sting Rays, Sharks, Trout, King Mackerel, larger sea bass, snapper, dolphin, Black Drum, Spade Fish, and Cobia. However, in winters, Myrtle Beach is not that popular for fishing, as you will only be able to find one or two species of fish. There are about eight piers and around 18 artificial reefs which can be used for fishing purposes. You can find various easy and convenient rental services for fishing gear and equipment.

Beaufort and Hilton Beach

These two different fishing spots are located less than an hour apart, and both offer a great variety of fish. There are several boat launching points in both the cities, and you can also go for the rocky bottom trip in between. Red snapper, barracuda, dolphin, sailfish, mackerel, red drum, grouper, and target king are some of the main attractions of these fishing spots which lure anglers all year round. At this fishing spot, there are about 11 artificial reefs, and you can find a great mix of species. Hilton Head Island and Beaufort offer exceptional touristy vibes along with many nearby attractions.

Charleston

The central coast is great for obtaining convenient lodging and fishing charters. Being a hotspot for recreational activities, it is quite popular among tourists. If you are an amateur at deep fish diving, then you can take a short trip and hit the rocky bottom areas on the shore. Popular catches found in Charleston include blue marlin, red drum, spotted sea trout, flounder, sheepshead, shark, black drum, Spanish mackerel and black sea bass. Inshore species like red drum and sea trout are available all year round.

Lake Murray

As the capital and second largest city of the state — Columbia is known as the hub for higher education. Lake Murray is about an hour away. Lake Murray is ideal for largemouth bass and striped bass fishing. You can choose to fish from locations that have public access at the lake such as: boat ramps, piers, and marinas. This is an amazing spot for recreation, and basic amenities available here include: restrooms, parking, walking tracks, restaurants, and picnic areas. You can find catfish, redear sunfish, crappie, and bluegill amongst others. The maintenance of Lake Murray is carried out by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Table Rock State Park

For families, this park is an amazing fishing spot.  Here, you can fish as well as enjoy a long weekend full of adventure. The park has cabins beside the lake, and you can also camp in tents, which are located half a mile from the parking lot. You can get food at the site, but on this trip, it would be better if you bring your own food. Popular fish species found on this spot are largemouth bass, channel catfish and bluegills.

Lake Marion

This lake is South Carolina’s largest lake, sprawled across 110,000 acres.  The big game fish like striped bass blue and flathead catfish can be found easily. It is mainly a boating lake.  You can see plenty of wildlife such as ospreys, alligators, turtles, and wading birds, which are quite an exciting sight to see, especially for kids.

Barnwell

There are many different options in this city which makes it the ultimate family fishing trip.  One of them is Lake Edgar Brown. Its primarily designated for fishing, and is well-managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. This lake has the finest shoreline access for an upgraded and quality fishing experience. Lake Edgar Brown has an area of about 100 acres, and it offers fish like: bass, shell crackers, and catfish, apart from other big fish found here.

Old Pitt Street Bridge

This fishing pier was built in the 1920s.  It looks over Cove Inlet and Charleston Harbor, and is now a part of the Picketts Bridge Recreation Area.  High tide, or low tide, this area is open to the public for fishing opportunities. It’s a prime location for flounder, whiting, and redfish. It has an amazing view of the waterway and the harbor, which you simply cannot miss.

Lake Greenwood

This lake is an 11,400-acre reservoir of rich fish species that includes delicious bass and crappie. This place is not very crowded, and you can easily fish off the pier.  Or, you could go to the banks of Lake Greenwood State Park.

Lake Jocose

This lake is famous for its beautiful views, and this fishing spot has many unique species such as smallmouth bass, spotted bass, rainbow trout, brown, and largemouth bass. The largemouth bass is found quite readily and in good quality in summer and spring. You can experience flying fishing  here as there is a huge population of rainbow trout and brown. An added plus: this lake has been named as one of” the world's last great destinations of a lifetime” by National Geographic Magazine.
